Noah Perkins, Musician
So you want to do some lessons?
A lot of people talk about how much they wished they had learned a musical instrument at some point - don't be one of those people! Take some lessons! With enough time and focus, anybody can become a really solid player and have a ton of fun making music. My teaching is aimed at building your trombone skills, your musical foundations, and hopefully some useful life skills along the way. Send me an email at perkins.noah.d[at]gmail.com with any questions
Teaching Statement
My top priority as a teacher and mentor is to be a conduit through which my students can not only express themselves artistically, but also experience the joy of competency. Students should expect to learn their craft, but to also do some of the challenging nonmusical work of building self-trust and self-esteem. I set very high (but achievable) standards for all students that are tailored to that student’s needs and current abilities. I fully reject the “old school” methods of shame and character assassination and choose to embrace curiosity and support. I seek to help build my student’s self-assuredness so they can enforce their own expectations. I aim to help mold great players, great artists, and great human beings.

What to expect?
My students can expect lessons to take them where they want to go. That can include making a run at a future in the industry, or playing for fun. I'll tailor the experience to what you're looking for. While I am primarily a brass performer and teacher I have worked quite extensively with woodwinds; less so with percussion and strings. I have taught 1-on-1, small groups, standard classrooms with up to 80 students, El Sistema-style symphony orchestra, jazz band, rock bands, and electronic music production.

All students can expect to learn instrumental fundamentals, music theory fundamentals, and music appreciation. After that it is up to you, we can do classical repertoire, jazz/commercial music, electronic music, composition, or anything else.
